Contemporary Garden Annexe for Elderly Living - Stowmarket, Suffolk

Our clients approached Hawksbeck Annexes looking to create a self-sufficient garden annexe for their elderly family members. Their goal was to provide a private yet connected living space that offered independence, comfort and closeness to the main family home.

They selected a cedar-cladded annexe from our Modern range, which includes a spacious kitchen and lounge area, a comfortable master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, and a welcoming outdoor patio and deck.

Living and Kitchen Area

The heart of this annexe is the open-plan living and kitchen area, which has been designed with comfort, practicality and a sense of familiarity in mind.

The kitchen is fitted with a full suite of modern units, offering plenty of storage and workspace for daily living.

The lounge area has been furnished with the family members’ own furniture, helping to preserve the feeling of home and providing reassurance through familiarity.

To ensure year-round comfort, an air conditioning unit was installed to maintain a stable indoor climate.

Bifold doors stretch across the front-facing wall, allowing light to pour into the space while creating a seamless connection to the main property and the garden beyond.

These doors also offer beautiful views of the outdoors, enhancing the sense of space and tranquillity.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom offers a peaceful retreat, designed with both practicality and comfort in mind.

A private ensuite bathroom ensures ease of use during the night, offering the convenience of independence.

A large window fills the room with natural light during the day, making it feel bright and airy.

Built-in wardrobes offer ample storage and help keep the room organised and free from clutter. These wardrobes feature mirrored doors, which reflect light and make the room feel even more spacious. Every detail has been carefully considered to enhance daily living and comfort.

Ensuite Bathroom

The ensuite bathroom has been designed to be compact yet highly functional. It includes a toilet, a small but stylish sink unit and a shower. The addition of a heated towel rack adds a touch of luxury and helps keep the space warm and cosy during cooler months.

Outdoor Space

One of the key features of this annexe is its connection to the outdoors.

A small patio area provides the perfect spot to sit and enjoy a cup of tea in the sunshine or to catch up with visiting friends and family.

To enhance year-round use, a raised deck was also added to the front of the annexe.

This thoughtful addition ensures that the entrance remains safe and accessible, even in frosty or damp conditions.

The deck not only adds practicality but also creates another pleasant space for outdoor living.

It can be used to entertain guests or simply enjoy the peaceful garden surroundings at any time of year.

Thinking of building a garden annexe for a family member? Whether it is for elderly relatives, grown-up children or even guest accommodation, Hawksbeck can help you design the perfect space to suit your needs.
